Puerto Limón

Most of the items that are imported to and consumed in Costa Rica arrive here from the Caribbean Coast, through the Port of Limón, and travel to San José, along route 32, for distribution to the rest of the country.  While a good deal of Costa Rica’s survival depends upon the Limón seaport industry, the Limón area is also known for some of the most beautiful Caribbean beaches in the world including Cahuita, Playa Negra, and the famous, Puerto Viejo.  Christopher Columbus became Costa Rica's first tourist in 1502 when he anchored off Limón's coast on his forth and final voyage to the new world.
