Parque Tortuguero

One trip we never seem to tire of is the one to Tortuguero National Park.  Located in the northern most region of the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, Tortuguero gained national park status in 1975.  The beaches of Tortuguero National Park are protected, and most famous for the spawning of the Green, the hawksbill, the leatherback, and the loggerhead sea turtles.  There are several different times of year that one can visit the beach behind Totuguero Village and be treated to the sight of a giant sea turtle emerging from the tropical Caribbean waters to nest and lay her clutch of eggs in the conservational protected, moonlit sands of Costa Rica.

If you’re really lucky, you might happen to be here at a time when the eggs hatch, and you can see the amazing sight of thousands of tiny sea turtles making their mad rush for the safety of the ocean waters.

While the sea turtles are certainly a sight not to miss, part of the wonder of the real adventure of Parque Nacional Tortuguero is the trip there.  There are a few different ways to get to Tortuguero.  A 2 day, 1 night tour can be purchased for a little over $100 per person.  The adventure of getting to Tortuguero is divided into two parts.  The part by land, and the part by water.  Wherever your adventure by land begins, it ends in Pavona.
